Clocking-in at TEDDY BEAR STITCHERY 2025
Clocking-in at TEDDY BEAR STITCHERY (2025) is an installation and performance made together with invited performers throughout the exhibition. The work takes cross-stitching, usually done by hand on a small and intimate scale, and enlarges it to the size of a construction site. A scaffolding structure becomes an embroidery frame, with latex stretched across its metal bars. During the exhibition, performers repeatedly stitch into the latex, slowly building the image of a teddy bear. The image grows through hours of repetitive work, while mistakes, physical effort, and traces of different hands remain visible. Placing a familiar domestic craft within the language of construction brings different forms of labor together. The soft and familiar image of a teddy bear is produced through an oversized and physically demanding process. Rather than hiding the work behind a finished image, the installation keeps the process visible—who makes it, how long it takes, and what the body has to do to produce it.
